Lower Yosemite Falls

Yosemite National Park - California

Back to the archives today. To this image shot almost exactly 7 years ago. The cascades in Yosemite were huge. If you love surging, thunderous, waterfalls - Yosemite in the early spring is your ticket. Plan a long time in advance. A year ahead is not too soon. Another view - looking up from the swollen Merced River - tomorrow.

I've put it on my "bucket list" just in case I buy the winning Lotto ticket!
Seriously, I've been going through the videos on YouTube, the official ones, and the whole place looks awesome, I was prompted by the many pictures of Don Smith and Scott Schillings to have a look, also learned that I didn't have a clue on how to correctly pronounce Yosemite!

@Curly: "YO-sem-ity" - and please, Curly - don't wait - create a show of your photography and raise in one weekend more than enough to fund the trip and more! Avoid the summer (too many people) and know that that in autumn the falls are frequently small or even dry. Early to mid-spring would be my suggestion.

Excellent image and the rainbow just takes it over the top.

@Ralph Jones: That 'rainbow' is there every morning so long as the sun is shinning and there is enough water in the falls. On full-moon nights in the spring (March - April - May) if there is no cloud cover - you get a 'moonbow' in the middle of the night as the moon rises above the canyon rim and hits the mists!

i would love to go there and get a long exposure of this! enchanting shot!
