Once while returning from Sacramento - the Amtrak train I was on came to a stop on this railroad drawbridge, allowing a tanker that had departed the Exxon refinery passage before us. This took awhile. The Amtrak cars are double decker types and I'll never forget the experience. Looking out of the train windows the waters churning through the Carquinez Straits seemed a long way down. This immediately went high on my list of places I'd rather not be in the event of an earthquake.
