Happy New Year in San Francisco
A story that is familiar to those who visit here frequently:
It was raining. I was traveling home from my office. It was after 11 PM and I was ready to retire - even though it was less than an hour before the new year would begin.
At the last minute - with the exit in the middle of the Bay Bridge onto Treasure Island coming up, I decided to try a few photographs of the fireworks and to see in the new year.
Minor regrets at this thought were quick to come as the three cars in front of me took the small, tight exit.Treasure Island used to be a secret when it was a military installation (U.S. Navy). But now that it is part of San Francisco - it has become a destination.
The line of traffic was double file and a mile long creeping down to the old sentry gate. But Della Reeves was singing jazz live from Yoshi's supper club on NPR's 'Toast-of-the-Nation' New year's radio-cast and I was suddenly into the project. This is the result...
