Inbound at Dawn

A San Francisco Cable Car on its first morning run...

There was a time when I was young and thin and actually commuted to work on one of these things every single morning - rain or shine. I can honestly report there is no finer way to get to work (provided you can arrange to have your home and your job somewhere near a cable car line). Refreshing, invigorating, delightfully noisy and with all sorts of riders from all over the world. It is impossible to arrive at work in a bad mood.

This is Greenwich Street. A double cul-de-sac intersecting Hyde Street atop Russian Hill.

[tomorrow]: an image taken one block north on the preceding morning at about the same time. A slightly more famous intersection.

[this week]: a walk down memory lane with some archival images that had never seen the light of an LCD screen. Finding some overlooked gems in the archive.

Forgive my recent minimal involvement - busy days. I'll check-in as I can.

I'm looking forward to your new series, because i'm finding strolling down Memory Lane is a lot easier on the legs than walking to town .

Great lighting. The texture of the bricks is great. I was driving down an old brick section of Michigan Avenue here in Detroit a couple of days ago. That is actually part of US 12, in the part of town called Corktown, in front of the site of the now-demolished Tiger Stadium (a.k.a. Briggs Stadium and before that Navin Field). The old brick pavement has to be at least 100 years old. The funny thing is that any bumps in the surface can only be found where they "repaired" it with cement or asphalt. The brick road is nearly perfect.
