Transbay Transit Terminal - San Francisco

on its final day of operations - 06 August 2010 - a series (IV)

Off of a bus - this was the ramp to the ticket offices or to the connecting buses and streetcars on the city streets below. I could not help but notice that these railings - and there are a lot of them in this building - are solid brass. I wonder what's to become of these?

I like the way this composition draws us to the light.
Were these lights intentionally on, or did you have to ask them to switch them on?

@Curly: Hey Curly - greetings and thank you. This is ( or was) a massive four-story facility. More than 3 blocks in length and handling tens-of-thousands of passengers each day, there is no access to turning anything off or on. Ironically, I had just driven by there a few minutes ago and all of the lights are still burning bright. The building is owned by the State of California and I have no idea why, or who to call to suggest they blow out the candles.

Yes this is a great view and perspective. The brass is valuable but I fear the three day bus passes will no longer be valid! Great work, Stephen.

@Denny Jump Photo: Actually - the whole operation has move to a city block two blocks away. It is a modern facility that will serve as the temporary terminal until 2017 - when the new state-of-the-art transportation hub will be completed. The major downside is that this temporary terminal is outdoors - and the rainy season looms ahead.
