Curly from South Shields, United Kingdom

There is actually just enough blur in the background to give the effect of the motion, and judging by the camera position it didn't look an easy one to take.

27 Jul 2010 6:23pm

@Curly: Hey Curly - you might enjoy my note to Susan - the blur in this is pure Photoshop.

Susan from Pompano Beach, FL, USA from Pompano Beach, United States

Awesome catch.....were you actually riding while shooting????

28 Jul 2010 12:26am

@Susan from Pompano Beach, FL, USA: Yup - actually riding - we rode the carousel for three go-arounds - the guy running the ride was really cool about it. It was a slow afternoon and I think he was happy to see us - but...

On this shot we were stationary. I worked for this image. I isolated everything on the turntable in Photoshop, using various selection methods and saving the selections. After getting everything set - I loaded them and did an inverse selection. I then used just a little motion blur to suggest we were moving.

But the main reason I went to all this trouble was because I loved the image but there was too much light and too little contrast around Jesse. Doing all of this allowed me to tone down the outside light while softening the distracting outside details through the blur effect. So now you know...
