Sunset at Tinidad Beach

Posted by
Stephen Phillips (San Francisco, United States) on 17 June 2010 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

Trinidad Beach - Humboldt County, California

It was late in the day and I was along the northern edge of the small town of Arcata, California. The sun was lowering - and saw the promise of a good sunset. I knew a place about 4 miles north where I could get a clear shot across some dunes - perhaps with a tree or two. Then I thought of this option - another ten miles further north. It was well more than an hour before sunset. I was so glad I took the longer drive.

I got some great images on the return from Portland, Oregon - I'll post some of them as I can over the next several days.

I'd be delighted with this one, the foreground anchors it well and the clouds are pretty amazing. Must be great to have all of that time on your hands for driving around Lol.

@Curly: Thanks Curly. Make no mistake - I am grateful for the opportunities in my life. Yet I work for myself and that can be daunting in this economy. I frequently work six and seven day weeks - and the days can run long. On the other hand - I get to call the shots. My mom lives up near Portland, Oregon in a terrific care facility. She has advanced Alzheimer's. I try to get up and visit her, my brother and his family when I can - and try to build in a little R&R time for myself on these trips.

Superb sunset, not the usual colors.

I so like it when you include the grasses and wildflowers in the forefront of your beach scenes.

@ordinaryimages: The sun and clouds had put on a show for almost an hour. Somewhat ironically - I had seen the husband in what appeared to be the kitchen area with his back to this all - perhaps working on supper. By the time he called to his wife - the sun was a mere blush of dusty rose being swallowed in grayness of the mists far out at sea. When she arrived - there were two broken fragments of el sol - the last gasp of the visible sphere - but she would have almost had to know where to look in order to find it.

This is a 5* plus some more image! You captured and processed this magically and I like the soft red tones in the sky. You also captured fantastic light on the foreground with the small flowers! This is one of my favorites. Thanks for the kind words on the blog Stephen and we'll have to meet some day for a dawn photo shoot from the Tamalpais side of the Golden Gate!
