North Peninsula Rose Garden / Terrace View

Posted by
Stephen Phillips (San Francisco, United States) on 15 June 2010 in Cityscape & Urban and Portfolio.

Portland, Oregon

I'm still traveling - if all goes as planned I should be back in San Francisco tomorrow. I thought I'd post two more photographs of our North Portland Rose Garden. This angle give a little better feel for the size of the facility. A very large gazebo stands behind me. As you might suspect - there are a lot of weddings performed here.

In today's image - we have a mom with her son. The boy is doing a last minute equipment check before his descent down the brick ramp into the garden. Mom, camera in hand, is standing by to capture the event for posterity. Our digital world.

[tomorrow]: a view from the northeast corner of the gardens reveals a partial view of the gazebo.

@Liang: Heavy rain, Liang, and yup - you're right - - - ducks and beavers - it's Oregon!

Are formal gardens like this common in the USA? I guessed they were a European thing, usually found in massive stately homes.
I like the way you draw us towards the fountain with this composition.

If he goes down that brick row.....does he end up, head first, in the water???? Cool shot Stephen !!!

@Susan: No helmet and no pads - there could be worse outcomes for this kid than a water landing.

sherri from Little Rock, Arkansas, United States

A beautiful view of the gardens. I'm surprised they allowed him to have that in the garden. Looks like it would be fun.

@sherri: Portland is fairly laid back. Unless someone is causing a problem for someone else - all they're likely to receive is a smile; and thanks for the visit.

Ralph Jones from Detroit, United States

Quite an impressive garden both in it's size and it's beauty/
