I seriously doubt I could find and empty stretch of highway in the city at any hour. This just looks so strange to me.

20 Mar 2010 3:14pm

@Ralph Jones: That why I returned to 'the scene of the crime' to try and capture this again - it IS strange!

Susan from Fort Lauderdale, FL, United States

It really does look like a deserted city.......how we can be fooled, ey? Love the larger version.....I doubt there's any time of day around here anymore where I could get a similar scene.........

20 Mar 2010 4:10pm

@Susan: Maybe - but I would have thought the same thing about this freeway. I've tried similar shots here and at the Golden Gate Bridge on Christmas and New Year's mornings without luck. There is something about the spring forward morning that throws the traffic off. It doesn't make sense. I would think it should work the other way - in the fall- but it doesn't. Enough folks are still in the old pattern, I guess.

I'll also point out that I was here for most of an hour - and this was the only image I got the suggested this level of no traffic.

(good luck tonight)

I to at first thought it had the feel of a deserted city, wouldnt have noticed the vehicles you mention until looking at the larger version and reading the story, not sure even on a spring forward morning you would find such a deserted feel anywhere around the city here

It has a very calm mood, but disconcerting, too.

Reminds me of a scene from a SciFi movie where most of mankind has disappeared. Fascinating shot, like the view, especially great from the large image.
