Jack London Square

Oakland, California

At first - I was set to use an image from last year's New Year's celebration. But I find myself so completely done with 2009 - I didn't want to start the year with something having to do with the start of that.

So instead - here is an image of my new neighborhood. This is hardly a typical view. Taken on Christmas morning - the square is so quiet. This rail line is one of the nation's busiest, leading directly to and from the Port of Oakland. But quiet or busy - I'm happy to be here...

It's a fantastic image to start once more :)
I like very much the perspective, and the flags on the sidewalls.
I'm sure you are happy living there :)
Carpe diem!

Didn't make it to Oakland in July. Now I see I missed something worthwhile. So thanks for this view today. And I believe I totally understand your being "done" with 2009. In a lot of ways it was not a good year, but within it, I have had some wonderful memories and experiences which I won't put away just yet - even as this new 2010 starts unfolding. Happy New Year, mon ami.

love all the lines in this - and how odd to see no traffic for such a busy spot......goodbye 2009 - hello 2010......

I sure understand you not wanting to start out this year, with something from the beginning of last......and looks like the area you've moved to will serve you well photographically!!! I must say, one good thing about 2009, is I joined am3, and gained a wealth of new friends, including you !!!

I lovely wide shot and an interesting place. You say the rail line is one of the busiest, through a town?
Hope you enjoy your new neighbourhood and have a great 2010.

@Michael: Right down the main business street. You might have an armful of purchases from the shops - but if your car is parked on the other side of that 120 car train - you'd best find a comfortable place to sit down for a few minutes.
