Jesse Jesse

Posted by

What could be better than Jesse ?

How about Jesse - twice ?

This photographer's 500th image at A Minus 3. Since Jesse graced my first image here on May 12th of 2008 - it seemed only appropriate she should be here again today. So here we have twice the celebration!

I love this! Not only the two girls doing two very different things and their clothes (and beauty!) but also that little logo on the photo machine advertising your photography.

This is a clever shot and one that will stay with me for a while. :)

Superb!!!! Did you merge two photos together? This is absolutely splendid! Love it! The colours are wonderful!

24 Sep 2009 3:58pm

@Magda: Thank you, Magda. And no, not a 'merge' in the sense I believe you mean. Later that same day - I took a series of images of Jesse along a very plain wall. It made it rather easy to isolate and extract her image with a very clean line. My challenge was that she was facing east in the photo booth and south in the wall shoot. The light in the second series was considerably flatter as well.

My solution was made possible in that I had a really good exposure on a raw file - and this allowed me some latitude to play with the file. After pasting Jesse onto her own layer - I used the 'lasso' in Photoshop™ to outline the area that would have been getting light from the east. I feathered this selection (10 pixels, I think) and brought up the light. I also adjusted the hue to match the original - and increased the saturation to compensate for the lower light.

Next - I inverted my selection and darkened and increased the contrast on Jesse's back - suggesting filtered shadow. I needed to 'scale' the new Jesse's size up about 15% to match her older twin. My last task was to copy and vertically flip her image to appear as a reflection in the floor tiles below her. A little slide play with the 'opacity' and 'fill' controls got the desired transparency. I also added a little 'blur' to the result. Voila!

Wow! More than I would be able to do with Photoshop! :-O Fabulous! You do magic with your photographs and editing skills! Bravo!!!
