Revina on a Staircase

Posted by
Stephen Phillips (San Francisco, United States) on 30 August 2009 in Documentary & Street and Portfolio.

A staircase that offers three distinct destination options. A dramatic framing for our lovely Revina during our soon-to-be-famous Gunne-Sax Dress Study last week in San Francisco.

Very good composition. The urban scenary and the model have harmonic lines in common. She is beautiful in her expression.

Great placement of your model......and oh, there's that dress again!!! I've just learned what a "gunne sax" dress is.....and now I wonder, why is this one soon to be famous?????? Love Revina's pointed toe....and just a suggestion, in case you feel like getting industrious.... I wonder how this would look, if all was b&w, except for Revina and her dress????

30 Aug 2009 6:44pm

@susan: Mmmmm - 'Soon to be famous...' - having not so much to do with the dress as in our fabulous teamwork on this project. Fame would seem unavoidable!

And - I appreciate your suggestion on creating a monochrome/color presentation but it is not my style. With rare exception - those generally appear as a gimmick to me, suggesting an image that doesn't stand on its own merits. Even though I do appreciate 'tints' on many photographs - I rarely apply them on mine. Just a fuddie-duddie I suppose.

Excellent! Love it. Wonderful in b&w!! Great choice.

Revina's foot is the hit of this shot for me; it's in such a subtle but eye-catching position.

@Viewfinder: At the woman's core is her dancing - which she's studying at San Francisco State University. Perhaps she betrayed a bit of that in her pose. Thanks, Glenn.

The pointed toe and the handrail really add to the feel of this frame. Nicely done and perfect in black & white.
