I'm enjoying your drive along the coast - looks like a beautiful area. Out of curiousity - why is it the "lost coast"?

@willow: Hey willow - thanks. If you go back to the link under the image and then click on the 'view map' - you can see why this is 'the lost coast'. Slowly zoom out and you'll see a long section of the coast here with no roads, towns, or services exsisting along side. There is one development - Shelter Cove - but the access there is a narrow winding road that goes out from U.S. Highway 101 near Redway. Otherwise - most people don't even know this remote piece of coast even exists. The geographic protection comes from the formidable Coast Range of mountains - and the fact that this part of the state is sparsely populated to begin with. Please don't tell anyone about this...

I used to live in Redway! I've been to Shelter Cove. Such a small world!
