nice shot here; compositionally, you've captured the loneliness, isolation perfectly...

The wide angle of this landscape seems to want to go forever. It's a wonderful composition; I like that house set off to the right.

Beautiful composition. Love the house and trees set off to the right with the snow-capped mountains to the left. Very nice!!

Looks like the weather has really taken it's toll on that building. Lovely capture.

peter from new york, United States

i'm sure at one point this abandoned shack was a great place to get away from it all. nice shot!

24 Mar 2009 4:02pm

@peter: I would have needed to shoot in all directions to really convey the beauty of this spot. The Shasta River is a short distance to the right and the whole scene is one of natural beauty and serenity.

Steve Rice from Olympia, United States

Now that's a beautiful image. The old house is amazing as is the view.

24 Mar 2009 4:14pm

Chris from South Jersey, United States

wonderful clouds and view - a stunning landscape. I don't know if it is me or not, but is that shack falling down (or is it the wide angle on your lens)?

24 Mar 2009 4:55pm

@Chris: Hi there, Chris - it is not the lens. This place has a bad case of the leans. I wouldn't want to be inside during a wind storm.

Lorraine from Gatineau, Canada

Well now all the best ones are deserted, why oh why, great photo and compo!

I just love old barns & abandoned buildings. This one makes a terrific subject--Great clouds too! I was just lamenting about how we don't get many like that in the Bay Area :)
You've gotten some great shots in the Northern CA area.

There is a spooky feel there...the way the shack and both the trees seem to be on the verge of teetering over. Very cool.

Pavan Kaul from Mumbai, India

Wonderful! That little house standing vulnerable and unprotected under a vast and foreboding sky, the four sentinels standing loyally beside it, battling the elements... Superb!

25 Mar 2009 4:32am

@Pavan Kaul: Thanks for the visit and kind words, Pavan.

willow from United States

I really like this shot. The little house looks so lost and forlorn.

25 Mar 2009 8:36pm

@willow: Thanks, willow - the house is indeed forlorn - but the high plateau is spectacular in its beauty.

Calusarus from St Sorlin en Valloire, France
