Valona Emporium

Posted by
Stephen Phillips (San Francisco, United States) on 14 March 2009 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

Valona was a small town along the Carquinez Strait during the end of the 19th century and the early 20th century. It was eventually absorbed and now stands as part of Crockett, California.

Interesting perspective. I find myself tilt my head from side to side looking at this image..... I am trying to picture the rest of this intersection. The way the buildings come together on top make me wonder...

Lesley from Lincoln, United States

Great angle, Stephen. I like the way my eye follows the Emporium sign on the right toward the Stop sign and then up to those great white clouds, which look like a Monet painting against that blue sky. Beautifully composed!

@Lesley: Oh, my - you've brought a refreshing perspective to this. Thank you.

Susan from Fort Lauderdale, FL, United States

Great angle on this one Stephen....are those wires holding up the sign????

14 Mar 2009 4:11pm

@Susan: Thanks, Susan. And, no - the sign is bracketed to the building - the wires give added support and resist the wind having its way with things.

John Maslowski from Dallas, PA, United States

Love the perspective Stephen, creates a very unique view. Interesting place and capture.

@k@: It would be good to get together someday when neither of us are wearing our respective heads - cameras in hand - off for a collective image exploration!

An unusual and very creative perspective. It almost becomes abstract and I like it a lot.
