Blue Grey & Golden Gate

Posted by
Stephen Phillips (San Francisco, United States) on 7 March 2009 in Cityscape & Urban and Portfolio.

Two days of storms give way to clearing skies across The Golden Gate. A couple (right-center) takes in the view on this peaceful morning. For a larger view: http://www.pbase.com/image/109889167

Scott Schilling from San Martin, United States

Another wonderful image of one of the most beautiful areas on the Planet - in my opinion. I love the pools with the reflections in this image - the little touch of the Golden Gate Bridge reflection is wonderful. I am hoping to make it to this area in April. This is nice perspective also as your eyes are drawn down the shoreline towards the bridge. Great Work Stephen!

@Scott Schilling: Thanks very much, Scott - and great news that you plan to visit. Please keep me updated, it would be good to meet you.

Suzanne from Huntington Bch, California, United States

I agree with Scott...I love the bay area. This is unusual, to me anyway, as I am used to seeing photos of the bridge combined with the city skyline and, in this image, there seems to be no city. Great perspective.

7 Mar 2009 7:07am

@Suzanne: The city is behind me as I take this, Suzanne. The view is looking west toward the Pacific Ocean.

Steve Rice from Olympia, United States

That is one huge scene! Very lovely with the reflections and, of course, the bridge.

Paco Díaz from Palma de Mallorca, Spain

Beautiful panoramic, good reflections on the water and great depth. And the bridge...
I wish to be there right now :)

7 Mar 2009 7:34am

@Paco Díaz: ...it would be great if you were here, Francisco - another beautiful morning. It is sunny and mild with lots of magnificent clouds. I'd be with you over at The Golden Gate - both of us with our cameras.

Marie LC from Voiron, France

Love this bridge. He is majestic !

yz from Budapest, Hungary

never seen such a wide shot of the golden gate
very interesting, great shot!

7 Mar 2009 8:58am

@yz: I love getting my wide angle lens down low - it opens whole new worlds of perspectives. I have been known to get my feet (and more) wet on these adventures.

EYES WIDE SHUT from United Kingdom

A wonderful composition, Stephen. So beautifully captured with the expanse of sand and sea competing for attention with such an incredible piece of architecture.

7 Mar 2009 9:20am

@EYES WIDE SHUT: How very kind - thank you.

Mirko Herzner from Mühlheim am Main, Germany

Thanks for presenting this 'not-as-usual' shot of this famous bridge. Seems to be a remote area you are shooting from...

7 Mar 2009 10:40am

@Mirko Herzner: To a degree - timing is everything. This is a very popular area with many dog walkers, runners, Frisbee-chuckers (the usual suspects). This was early on a very overcast weekday morning and the sun was just beginning to find holes to shine through. The tide was way out and I climbed down to the beach. There were many people back up at the foot path behind me.

chrissy from uk, United Kingdom

Marvellous composition, such a lot of detail, like it very much

djedfre from schaumburg, United States

nice perspective and panorama - makes it appear that this fantastic bridge is in the middle of some desolate unpopulated area!

7 Mar 2009 11:05am

@djedfre: Thanks for the comment - as to population - I guess we both know better. Still, it is one of the great facts of living here that one can find great beauty and solitude fairly easily.

DenisSm from Prague, Czech Republic

nice picture...here it seems to me like S.F. disappeared :-)

7 Mar 2009 11:37am

@DenisSm: That's me - the photographer magician - a whole city - - - > poof ! <

Lorraine from Gatineau, Canada

Stunning...

7 Mar 2009 11:54am

Chris from South Jersey, United States

it is a great view, and unusual in that it doesn't show the city. The wide open tidal area adds a little of a desolate feeling to this, and also helps with the panoramic feeling of this shot.....

7 Mar 2009 12:57pm

@Chris: Don't tell anyone Chris - this is why I live here...

Evelyne Dubos from Le Mans, France

Like the vision of the famous red bridge in this quiet place, far from the bustle of the city. An unusual point of view.

Eleftheria from Athens, Greece

I like the reflection on the water!

7 Mar 2009 2:44pm

sherri from Little Rock, United States

The bridge makes a nice piece of color against the other hues of the image.

7 Mar 2009 2:48pm

Marcie from United States

Love the soft colors as backdrop for the red bridge. Wonderful panoramic vision.

Tracy from La Selva Beach, United States

Very cool & unusual shot- I too really like using my wide angle down low, lots of fun....Would you mind sharing the location of this beach? I have been looking for it, but don't know where to find it :)

@Tracy: Go back to the image - click on the link to the larger view - and you will see a link that says 'View Map' - thanks for the comments, Tracy.

Observing from North West, United Kingdom

It does have that look of - peace after the storm... the reflections in the pools look good !

DenisSm from Prague, Czech Republic

you answer makes me wonder Stephen, if David C. was learning from you when escaping Alcatraz or you have learned from him making city......poooof ....:-))

7 Mar 2009 10:17pm

@DenisSm: I had the pleasure of seeing Mr. Copperfield - ironically, at The Golden Gate Theater - many years ago. I would suggest that I was the student - and that the rest is now history... > poof ! <

Susan from Fort Lauderdale, FL, United States

beautiful shot of my favorite place!! i don't think it was ever that clear the whole time i was out there...maybe july wasn't such a good month for the weather??!!??

8 Mar 2009 12:07am

@Susan: Big tourist mistake - we get fog in the summer all along the coast.
Most beautiful weather: April
Warmest and sunniest along the coast: September / October

dogilicious from Millerstown, PA, United States

This is an angle of the bridge that you wouldn't normally see captured. Excellent wide angle.

8 Mar 2009 6:24pm

Twelvebit from Victoria, United States

An unusual perspective of a often seen landmark.

9 Mar 2009 3:05pm

melodia from ffm, Germany

like the widness in the picture, with the bridge so far away ... the light fresh blue on the right side even though it's actually more rainy and grey...

11 Mar 2009 7:58pm

Calusarus from St Sorlin en Valloire, France

An unusual view for this famous bridge
