A rainy day over the lands of Carquinez Regional Park - California

This is a short series taken on the day of yesterday's sunset image. This was my first capture of the day in the lands to the south and east of the small town of Crockett. Tomorrow - off to Crockett.

Yep, that's what things look like just now. I feel like I live in Oregon. OMG ... my toes are webbing!

Full range of exposure here. Nice.

4 Mar 2009 5:09am

@MontereyJohn: Having family in Oregon - I understand webbing. It's if and when you start sounding 'Daffy' that I'll begin to worry.

Scott Schilling from San Martin, United States

Stephen, This is beautiful - wonderful light and this is my favorite time of year in the Bay Area with the green hills, clouds, and pretty soon the wildflowers - wonderful image with the fence, hills, clouds - Thanks for sharing!

4 Mar 2009 5:22am

@Scott Schilling: Amen - Scott - this is a time in California that lifts the heart of all photographers. The light and the ever changing show of nature has me wanting to be outdoors at every moment. I find it hard to sit at my desk.

Suzanne from Huntington Bch, California, United States

Ah, I love that brilliant green of new grass. Lovely.

Steve Rice from Olympia, United States

The rains have done their work it seems. Everything looks so lush.

4 Mar 2009 6:48am

@Steve Rice: Well - for now - the drought word is far from going away. We had virtually no rain in December or January - out two wettest months - and this coming off of two drought years. The hills were still brown two weeks ago. I guess that's what had me take the image - it is great to see. The best news is that more storms are forecast into the next two weeks.

Mike from Lichfield, United Kingdom

Lee from Fort Frances Ontario, Canada

So lush and green, hard to imagine a drought or even possibility of one.

4 Mar 2009 1:15pm

@Lee: Three weeks after the final spring rain these hills are brown - and in another couple of weeks they are the color of white gold. They remain this color until the late fall when the winter rains return.

bluechameleon from Vancouver, Canada

Beautiful shades of green and rolling hills. This is so beautiful! The light shows every detail...a stunner.

dogilicious from Millerstown, PA, United States

Not a normal shot for you! The greens and the grays are great together.

4 Mar 2009 7:18pm

@dogilicious: I have no idea what a 'normal' shot for me might be. People ask me what kind of photography I do. My stock response is generally, "I shoot anything but weddings." And I'd shoot one of those if it was unusual or quirky.
Basically I am drawn to shoot what resonates somehow. We are in the middle of a three year drought and the pools of light rolling of this soaked landscape looked exceptionally good.

Susan from Fort Lauderdale, FL, United States

Wow, what beautiful rolling hills, and everything looks so green and lush.... You got a great catch here...... And I can tell you for sure, there's nothing that looks like that down here in flat South Florida!!!

Evelyne Dubos from Le Mans, France

Un beau tapis de verts tendres et des collines aux douces rondeurs, un paysage qui dégage beaucoup de fraîcheur. J'aime l'arbre et son ombre sur la colline au premier plan.

4 Mar 2009 10:27pm

@Evelyne Dubos: Merci beaucoup Evelyne.
