What a great capture. The colors are wonderful and the reflection is so clear. Love those green steps.

2 Mar 2009 5:12am

@sherri: ...steps get like this when they spend most of their time below the surface of San Francisco Bay.

Magda from Canada

Great framing. Love the reflection and moss on the stairs - great textures!

@Magda: Thanks so much, Magda - for the visit and kind words.

Paco Díaz from Palma de Mallorca, Spain

I like very much that first light on the surfaces and the colors. The larger version lets us appreciate better the details. Thanks.

Serious equipment there! 5D lovely machine!

Do you know Manu Guerzoni aka SF Daily Photo? He just sold his 5d, and I'm afraid to ask him what he bought in its place!

Fine image as always, Stephen.

2 Mar 2009 6:07am

@MontereyJohn: Hi there John. I am not familiar with Manu Guerzoni, but I love his name. I'd place even money that he's traded up to the new 5D mark II - all 21.1 megs worth. Full frame Digic 4 processor, ISO 50 to 25,600!

I am salivating for this camera but it will have to wait until my personal economic turn-around comes about.

Alun Lambert from cheshire, United Kingdom

nice shot, love the textures

Suzanne from Huntington Bch, California, United States

Interesting scene. I like the reflection in the water. Looks like this are would benefit from a good power wash. ;o)

2 Mar 2009 6:36am

@Suzanne: A wash would be useless. This image was at low tide. These steps should not have been built. They are below sea level most of the time and are too slippery to walk on. A barricade and warning signs keep sensible people away.

yz from Budapest, Hungary

love the colors and the framing

Liang from San Francisco, United States

I was just there a couple of days ago, on Friday when it was bright sunny. What a difference 24 hours make huh? Great shot and reflection from the poodle!

2 Mar 2009 7:25am

@Liang: Around here and this time of year - even 24 minutes can change everything. Keep coming around!

zahai from Berlin, Germany

Beautiful scene. I love the colors and reflections...beautifully composed :)

Chris from South Jersey, United States

those green steps are just great - did you capture any up close shots of just them? I also really like the building reflections in the water - wonderful light.....

2 Mar 2009 3:53pm

Jeff from Pembroke Dock, Wales., United Kingdom

Those steps are just waiting for someones backside to come crashing down on them, hope it wasn't yours...Brilliant reflections in the puddle.

Mirko Herzner from Mühlheim am Main, Germany

Not an especially nice shot but working good for the reflection. It's interesting to see the bottom of this house for real and the top in this reflection...

Evelyne Dubos from Le Mans, France

Very nice scene... like vivid colours and excelent rendering of texture especialy in the low half of the shot. For me, details of this part alone would justify a photo. Do you take one ?

Marcie from United States

Wonderful reflections. Love the rainy day colors!

Steve Rice from Olympia, United States

This is a beautiful scene. I like the reflections in the puddle. Neat trees.

willow from Chelsea, United States

Striking contrast between the well-polished buildings and the moss-covered steps - unexpected and interesting.

2 Mar 2009 6:18pm

Girish from Montebello, United States

Steve, I would love if you can post a grand picture of the bow and arrow sculpture situated closeby from the location of this picture.

2 Mar 2009 6:34pm

@Girish: Here is hoping this might do for now, Girish:

peter from new york, United States

so many great elements in this shot: the reflections, the green on the steps, the buildings etc... great stuff!!!

2 Mar 2009 9:25pm

Twelvebit from Victoria, United States

I thought the steps looked slippery and was going to ask if they were underwater at high tide but I see you've already answered that question. But to some extent they are ripe for exploration as you have found here.

2 Mar 2009 10:16pm

@Twelvebit: You simply can't stand on this stuff - I'm safely above these steps on a ramp heading to a public pier.

Susan from Fort Lauderdale, FL, United States

Stephen, I agree with MOST here, the colors are just spectacular....The shot I'd like to see is the same location, at high tide!!

2 Mar 2009 11:57pm

@Susan: Hi there Susan, thanks. I'll try to accommodate your request sometime soon. Meanwhile - this isn't even high-tide, but it was a day with lots of storm driven sea surge. Where I took today's image is up near that brick building. I was standing in front of the three lamp posts near center:

Steven from Chicagoland, United States

Love this capture with the "wall of architecture" along the street. Good use of "thirds."

I adore the green going down the staircase. Wonderful capture.
