Lunchtime at Piazza D' Angelo

Stephen Phillips (San Francisco, United States) on 15 February 2009 in Food & Cuisine and Portfolio.

Mill Valley, California

With the incredible number of world class restaurants in San Francisco - it might seem crazy that I would choose an eatery north of The Golden Gate as 'my favorite' - yet here we are.

Anytime someone visits me from out-of-town - I try to include a journey here for at least one of our meals. The cuisine is California-Italian. Fresh presentations and a menu that is frequently updated are their hallmarks. The food is dazzling. In nine yeas of frequent visits - I have never had a disappointing experience - not once. And the prices are most reasonable.

Lunch is joyful - and I love dining here on a rainy day. But dinner is the best. From their salads and wood fired pizzas; to their seafood soup (Zuppa di Pesce), to the duck or the flank steak or the lamb - unbeatable!

If you would like to see the menu and some additional views - here is their website:

A beautiful composition - you need to send to this restaurant so they can use it for their website/ad - you have now made me very hungry also!! Nice work again!

Mike from Lichfield, United Kingdom

I've checked out their menu and it looks like a nice place. Nicely captured shot. Also I think a crop on the lady reading the newspaper on the right hand side would have made for an interesting pic too especially with that magnificent fireplace.

@Mike: Thanks, Mike - I'd have loved to have done a study of her - but felt the need to be discrete given I was using a tripod with permission from the host.

GJC from Kyoto, Japan

Looks great! What time are our reservations? The table you take this from is just fine with me. Oh, and I'd like the red wine please :)

Lorraine from Gatineau, Canada

I love the view here, spectacular restaurant shot....

15 Feb 2009 3:11pm

@Lorraine: The view - lacks you.

Walter from Watkinsville, United States

This restaurant looks great. Bet the atmosphere is even better at night with the lighting they have in place.

15 Feb 2009 5:05pm

@Walter: They were preparing for Valentine's Night and I only did them half justice. There is a large outdoor dining area - and clever folks that they be - they can convert the area into a heated indoor affair - which they'd done in spades given the occasion. On a summer's evening - the patio is magical.

Paco Díaz from Palma de Mallorca, Spain

It looks a nice place and I'm sure it's a must if you choose it. I take note :)
