A stunning scene Stephen, although the strip of water at the bottom of the shot distracts my eye a bit.

Marcie from United States

It reminds me of a hill of old-fashioned wooden building blocks. Love the straight on composition.

31 Jan 2009 5:34pm

Diane Schuller from Hythe, Canada

wonderful clarity and crispness -- verry appropriate for this subject. Including the strip of water really MAKES this. Good work

Cool shot.,.you're so lucky you have hills!!! If i took that shot here, you'd only see the first row of buildings!!

31 Jan 2009 7:44pm

@Susan: I love Florida. There's usually a bridge somewhere to allow a larger view. Best to you, Susan.

Paco Díaz from Palma de Mallorca, Spain

Splendid image, I like the sharp lines and colors of this one, the depth and composition.

You must be in a boat:-)

31 Jan 2009 7:59pm

@sherri: Hi, Sherri. No. Aquatic Park Pier wraps around this small harbor in a near full circle. It is in terrible disrepair - but I was by there Thursday and it looks as though they've begun some restorations. If the sinking State and local budgets allow this to continue forward.

alex centrella from California, United States

great detail and wonderful composition.

Observing from West Cheshire, United Kingdom

A lovely wide view of what seems to be a nice area. I like the gentle sunlight hitting those buildings .

31 Jan 2009 9:51pm

@Observing: These homes and apartments overlook a view of The Bay which includes Angel Island, Alcatraz, and the Golden Gate. This is beyond 'a nice area' - you are looking at some serious money on this hill, Mike.

hugo poon from hong kong, Hong Kong

Wow, such diverse and beautiful building forms... another wonderful capture! Thanks again for the tour. Have a great weekend!:-)

1 Feb 2009 1:52am

@hugo poon: Thanks, Hugo - we're almost done with 'touring' for now. I think you'll enjoy tomorrow's post - which loosely connects to this one. I hope you do. You have a good weekend as well...

Nice overview. So many little boxes... Thanks for your recent comments. I've been swamped with work and having a hard time finding time to spend with my first love - photos and my friends here!

@willow: Create your world in such a way that you will expand the time for what is most important to you.

yz from Budapest, Hungary

i wonder why it is called russian?

7 Feb 2009 1:22pm

@yz: Russian fur traders - from the north - settled the west coast of this continent ahead of the Spanish - with settlements as far south as The Russian River - about 100 km (60 miles) north of San Francisco. When Gold Rush era populations began settling the hill - they discovered a small Russian cemetery there. The cemetery was soon removed and the hill was named in the honor of the unidentified deceased. FYI.
