There's a new group on FACEBOOK™:

"Aminus3 on Facebook"

here is a place off of the blog - where we can discuss travel, cooking, raising kids, grooming goldfish - whatever...

You will need to join Facebook (if you haven't already). It is free. Then just send me a friend request and I'll sent you an invitation to join. The group is open to any active member at AM3. If you need help finding me at Facebook, here's a hint; I'm the only Stephen Phillips in San Francisco with a camera in his profile picture.

This is a new group - just for us. I hope to see you there.

Nice image, hasn't changed all that much over the years.

BTW, I joined the facebook group.

@MontereyJohn: I love visiting southern California - and at the same time most happy I don't live there. My biggest thrill is in seeing the enormously diverse architecture and the circus of human complexity, expression, and innovation. There is no place on earth like our 'Southland'.

And great to have you joining us on Facebook™ - I'll get to hooking up with you so we can get you an invitation to the AM3 Group.

Alun Lambert from cheshire, United Kingdom

Looks lovely

@Alun Lambert: 'tis.

Mirko Herzner from Mühlheim am Main, Germany

What a beach, Stephen. You are living in a nice area. I like the composition of this shot.

18 Dec 2008 6:26am

@Mirko Herzner: Whoa - and hold on there Mirko. I don't really live 'near' there. California is so huge. I'm about 650 km (400 miles) away from Santa Monica. That is almost the same distance as Boston to Washington, D.C. - which would take you through eight states (Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Maryland). Just so you know.

dj.tigersprout from San Bruno, CA, United States

just a fantastic view Stephen -- truly wonderful use and representation of space!! gorgeous!!

Super beach shot Stephen, I thought that the buildings had a slight colonial look...? North Africa is very similar.

JJ from Jersey City, United States

What a beautiful beach seems so wide, have never been there yet but your shots are making want to visit there sometime

18 Dec 2008 1:10pm

@JJ: I hope you do.

Fliss from Melbourne Beach, United States

I am yet to visit this part of CA... the beach looks so pretty...

I love a quiet beach. Very well captured.

grant from kansas city, United States

i just don't think i can stand it anymore - the sun is setting here before five, freezing rain is falling, and now this photo!

18 Dec 2008 10:23pm

@grant: Hang in there, Grant. It's the same here. Sunrise: 7:20 / Sunset 4:53 - In less than eight weeks the pitchers and catchers report. The world will begin - once again - to hold promise.

peter from new york, United States

Beautiful place Stephen, the sand is so pure and clean. Lovely view, even the architectural designs are intriguing. Outstanding shot!

sherri from Little Rock, Arkansas, United States

What a gorgeous beach.....big sigh....

19 Dec 2008 6:40am

@sherri: Hang in there, Sherri - the frost will give way to the crocus before you know it.

Calusarus from St Sorlin en Valloire, France

A nice beach, but where are the people ? Behind the camera ?

19 Dec 2008 6:07pm

@Calusarus: This isn't that rare in Southern California. This was off-season - midday - midweek - most people are either working or in school and there is a lot of beach.

Suzanne from Huntington Bch, United States

Again, a great image of Santa Monica. I lived for many years in Brentwood, just east of SM and used to love to bike ride down to the beach trail.

21 Dec 2008 8:13am

@Suzanne: I have to share this with you. I was preparing this shot to post when I noticed something at the lower right. I was in Photoshop® and zoomed in. There he was - unmistakable - a rat. He was up on his haunches and facing the surf. With a whistle around his neck, he could have passed for an attentive lifeguard. He's still there in the image. The funny thing is - that not only did I fail to notice him at the time - but I've logged lots of time - on hundreds of beaches - and can't ever recall seeing a rodent on the sands.

Magda from Vancouver, Canada

Breathtaking! Love the composition!
