A little of that famed southern California smog showing to the north.

There's a new group on FACEBOOK™:

"Aminus3 on Facebook"

here is a place off of the blog - where we can discuss travel, cooking, raising kids, grooming goldfish - whatever...

You will need to join Facebook (if you haven't already). It is free. Then just send me a friend request and I'll sent you an invitation to join. The group is open to any active member at AM3. If you need help finding me at Facebook, here's a hint; I'm the only Stephen Phillips in San Francisco with a camera in his profile picture.

This is a new group - just for us. I hope to see you there.

Observing from West Cheshire, United Kingdom

Nice looking beach, I like the sea mist rolling in across the dunes, the mountains are just visible in the background.

17 Dec 2008 5:53am

@Observing: ...grab your beach towel. There's a great Caribbean jerk chicken place a couple of blocks south of here - lunch is on me.

yz from Budapest, Hungary

Nice shot, I wish I was there

17 Dec 2008 7:42am

@yz: too.

dj.tigersprout from San Bruno, CA, United States

ooh yes -- the southern californian marine layer!!! almost fog -- almost not!!! :) a beautiful shot -- i wish it got this warm up here at the beach... of course, i like how solitary our beaches are too! ;)

17 Dec 2008 8:28am

@dj.tigersprout: Amen. I look at we have for hundreds of miles north and south - and then look at southern California - I'll vote to keep our solitary sands, thank you!

LeenaM from Joensuu, Finland

Thank you for your invitation to Facebook group!
I am in , but so busy during Christmas time, that I will be quite inactive in a blogospehere, thanks anyway :)
A wonderful beach - so faraway from our world these dark days. Sun rises 9:29 and sets 14:25. Length of day is 4 h 56 min, no swimming or sunshine now!
Happy days to you, Merry Christmas!

17 Dec 2008 9:08am

@LeenaM: Leena - I would love to be sharing the holiday experience where you are. Thanks for checking in. Quite a few people are joining the AM3 group - so I suspect it will be there after things quiet down for you. Happy Holidays to you!

chrissy from London, United Kingdom

nice pic, the beach is very popular, wish I was there

17 Dec 2008 9:10am

@chrissy: ...hey, chirssy - I've got the rubber duckie, come on.

Les from Lincoln, United States

Makes me homesick for Del Mar!! Especially today as we get ready for an ice storm. Current temp is 1 (F). Sigh.
Thanks for the invite to facebook. I'm probably the last person on the planet who hasn't joined. Might have to remedy that, although that's one more online activity to take away from my real life. :)

17 Dec 2008 11:26am

@Les: Hey, Les - thanks for stopping by. I fight the same battle for time. And my attention must ebb and flow. MY hope is that this will provide a good tool beyond idle chat - but for making real connections, say when people travel. --- Is that Lincoln, Nebraska where you're hanging your hat?

hugo poon from hong kong, Hong Kong

How enjoyable Stephen... makes me miss the summer days!:-) Thanks so much for the invitation. Catch you later!

17 Dec 2008 1:03pm

@hugo poon: Thanks for joining in, Hugo. And, yes - it is freezing everywhere in California - even Santa Monica. Summer dreams are looming large.

dogilicious from Millerstown, PA, United States

As snow and freezing rain fall in the northeast, a picture of the beach may just send me over the edge! Thanks for the Facebook invite...might see you there.

17 Dec 2008 1:04pm

@dogilicious: Be careful near that edge - only 183 shopping days until summer!

Marcie from United States

Here it is raining and snowing and sleeting...and it's cold and slushy and miserable. This image is a sight for sore eyes!!! Wonderful!

17 Dec 2008 1:12pm

@Marcie: Hey, Marcie - glad to spread a little sunshine - it has been icy cold and wet here too.

Alphons from Kaatsheuvel, Netherlands

Very nice sunny and busy picture. I'll wait to summer again.

17 Dec 2008 3:41pm

Lorraine from Gatineau, Canada

Oh wow, I love this, not going to see it for a while, but I can dig ;)

17 Dec 2008 4:30pm

@Lorraine: "Roll out those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer..."

Bonj from Jefferson City, United States

Nice capture of a day at the beach.

17 Dec 2008 6:16pm

grant from kansas city, United States

i'm looking out the window at a blanket of snow - life isn't fair!

17 Dec 2008 9:02pm

@grant: This image was taken in August - it is freezing here, too. Just so you know. (...and it isn't fair, your right)

Alun Lambert from cheshire, United Kingdom

Jerk chicken, now your talking

17 Dec 2008 10:00pm

djedfre from schaumburg, United States

ah, brings back memories - some of my earliest photos (with my Kodak Instamatic X-25 - the one with automatic (!!!) advance) are of the wonderful mysterious looming Pacific Ocean Park shortly before the gangs burned it down... at least the smog hasn't changed!

17 Dec 2008 10:19pm

@djedfre: My goodness, I had no idea. Your post had me chase to Google and look up the pier's history. You've no doubt seen this - but just in case:

...what an amazing labor of love someone put in to assembling all of this material.

Walter from Watkinsville, United States

I am signed up on FB. Thanks for the invite. Been looking to get on for a while, but put it off. What a diverse group of people at the beach that day. Definitely a people watching day. Almost like a where's waldo of sorts.

18 Dec 2008 2:53am

@Walter: You will see a significant contrast in tomorrow's post.

Welcome to Facebook! You will find your invitation into 'AM3onFacebook' when you go there next. It is great to have you in our new group.

melodia from ffm, Germany

this is what you'd think of a holiday-beach-picture with plenty of people on it... ;)
like the composition!

18 Dec 2008 9:08pm

@melodia: The only thing this movie scene is missing is - you... Lights, sound - speed, roll camera, - - - aaand action!

Les from Lincoln, United States

Yep, Lincoln, Nebraska where it's currently raining (with thunder and lightning) on top of fresh snow. 24 (F) Gonna love that morning commute tomorrow. Sigh.
And, no, I'm not a Husker fan!

19 Dec 2008 2:25am

@Les: Actually - I'd love to be enjoying that wild weather you're experiencing. It's cold (by San Francisco standards) and rainy here and we're supposed to get a doozy of a Pacific Storm going into Christmas day. I think we'll all be ready for blossoms on the trees. As to that last comment - isn't that a dangerous position in those parts? Drive safely heading into work tomorrow, Les. Be well. And happy holidays to you.

Suzanne from Huntington Bch, United States

A classic and timeless image. Well done.
