Return to the Flamingo Quadplex

Posted by
Stephen Phillips (San Francisco, United States) on 7 November 2008 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

Finding our familiar row of flamingo pink houses in Loleta without a single car blocking the view - I had to set the camera for this capture which shows them off so well. Passions in pink!

Observing from West Cheshire, United Kingdom

That's one beautiful shot Stephen, feels as if I could step right across the road. Very cool houses in the art-deco style, very nice.

I'm dying to go inside now. They look small actually.

7 Nov 2008 6:03am

@lisa v: small, they are - and so very fifties...

Alun Lambert from cheshire, United Kingdom

Paco Díaz from Palma de Mallorca, Spain

Good image, it looks like the photos of the fifties-sixties. I like the color of the houses and its forms.
You will make me go to California to see Loleta! :))

7 Nov 2008 8:39am

@Paco Díaz: very fifties, no doubt about it.

Betty from New Jersey, United States

Very retro! There is no other color they could be... but pink. Excellent!

Marcie from United States

Wild colors! Looks like a place from another era.

Viewfinder from Bradenton, United States

This place is so "retro" looking. It would fit in perfectly here in Florida.

7 Nov 2008 1:37pm

@Viewfinder: So true - in Florida - they'd hardly get a second look - but here along the wet northwestern Pacific Coast - they seem lost in space and time.

Lorraine from Gatineau, Canada

lol amazing hey I've never seen a place quite like Loleta...lol

7 Nov 2008 4:04pm

@Lorraine: Hey, I'm guessing you never will.

willow from Chelsea, United States

So pretty in pink - sorry, couldn't resist. I like you POV here - Why, I wonder, do they need such big, wide streets in such a sleepy, little town?

7 Nov 2008 4:23pm

@willow: These houses are just a block up from the old dairy - so my guess is the wide street was built to accommodate the trucks coming in and out.

Anthony Lambert from Bielefeld, Germany

A sweet street !!

gbe from kansas city, United States

love it - the buildings, the sky, the wires connecting to the buildings without poles, the street, the strip of curb and grass, all of it.

7 Nov 2008 5:37pm

@gbe: ...thanks for the kind words!

Francesc B. from région parisienne, France

So very 50s! (Does the sun EVER shine up there? :)

8 Nov 2008 4:50am

@MontereyJohn: Don't tell anyone but I'll remind you that every photograph in this series was taken on the same morning (October 4th). It does rain a lot - but does find sun from time to time.
