Cannibal Island Road

Posted by
Stephen Phillips (San Francisco, United States) on 21 October 2008 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

Cannibal Island - no kidding. Loleta is at my back - almost literally. It was still pretty rainy. I had a real good local map and noticed this road - which looked like it would take me on or real near the beach, about 6.6 km ( 4.1 mi ) to the west.

So, off we go...

this could seriously be the perfect town in which to stage in a grizzly murder thriller -- like Halloween!! there could easily be a sign that reads: 'abandon hope, all ye that enter here'... beautiful, but certainly a bit creepy... ;)

The houses are bigger and look more expensive than in Loleta, and it also looks a nice quiet place, I don't care much for the name though, maybe it's hiding a terrible secret....?

I am researching Loleta history and have only come across hints of why the island was called cannibal island. But it does have to do with an event that involved Indians and cannibalism. I've yet to find the real story...
