Decked Up & Decked Out...

Posted by
Stephen Phillips (San Francisco, United States) on 17 October 2008 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

...for Halloween.

Remember the beat-up looking house we saw last month?

This home was posted here on September 29th. Clearly - things are looking up as it sports a new roof and now wears a new coat or two of fresh paint. The then dangling light fixtures are in their proper places. Scaffolding along the east side of the house indicates the work is continuing.

One last piece of good news. This image was captured on Saturday morning. I'd driven by the night before and it was raining too hard to shoot. But the front door was open and had one of those toddler gates across it - suggesting 'little feet' around the scatter...

What a difference! I wonder what happened to the topiaries?! :)

17 Oct 2008 5:17am

@Magda: I am confident that they are just out of the way of the paint gun and brushes - they'll be back. And I'll hopefully be there to report on the return...

Kylie Greenan from Richmond, Australia

Wow, things are looking good, it hardly looks like the same place, they seem to have injected some love and it has been nice to see the progression, great image Stephen!

But they forgot to put the two little planted trees...It is very well done, but I also adored the run down version, I have weird taste :)

@Lorraine: (me too) - I'd bet that the topiary and that little stone lantern will be back when they're done with the work.

gbe from kansas city, United States

i think "happy little house" says it well.

@gbe: indeed !

dogilicious from Millerstown, PA, United States

I looked back at the last shot. Quite a change. Toddler? - I told you there was a population boom! Nice image.

17 Oct 2008 2:48pm

@dogilicious: I guess I'll have to tip my hat to you in making the call. Besides, what else is there to do in Loleta - now that the trains have stopped rolling? Choo-choo-cha-boogie!

Evelyne Dubos from Le Mans, France

Yes of course that's really better, it looks like a pretty house ... but now would like to see Loleta with sunshine !!!! :-))

17 Oct 2008 3:08pm

@Evelyne Dubos: Harnessing the energy of a sunny Loleta could solve the problems of all of humanity - bring about peace-on-earth - and reverse global warming.

Alun Lambert from cheshire, United Kingdom

very nice house

Observing from West Cheshire, United Kingdom

That's a big improvement, and it's attractive now.

17 Oct 2008 8:37pm

@Observing: well - the door is still a mess - but clearly the progress thus far points to a first class job.

How industrious they've been. I must admit I kind of liked its rustic look, too, though. I'm glad you left the incline in the image.

Nice shot. And the improvements have gone a long way. It looks much better now.

Going back to my previous comment, I noted that it appeared to be in the process of being fixed up. So gad I was right. This home will now live to see many more years of service.

new beginnings!!! beautiful indeed! and what a make-over! any suggestion to say that the cement porch will be replaced? or will that be kept? thanks for the update on this marvel of a property as it goes through metamorphosis!!

googling photos of Loleta for my history page and came across your gallery! Love it! You should see this place now. This is called the "Cecelia Johnson House" by Loleta Oldtimers. Before the former Loleta girl and her husband bought this house and proceeded to fix it up, it was a rental to which the last residence's used it as a glass blowing business and grow house. They tore it apart. The interior is mostly still original. The gates you saw were for the owner's three boxers, as their children are in their 20's. You should see the house now!
