Life in Loleta - four homes

Posted by Stephen Phillips (San Francisco, United States) on 30 September 2008 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

This is my favorite housing in Loleta - a quadraplex of homes - all in flamingo pink!
I've never seen anything even close to this architecture. Fifties would be my guess. I hate to admit that I really like these.

I laughed when I read your narrative, they are certainly very different and I am not sure I have ever seen much quite like it either, it's out there now that you like quaint little pink flamingo houses, your life will never be the same my friend! Game man you hahhaa ;o) Great image!

@Kylie Greenan: Hey - my life has never been the same for a long, long time...

Mirko Herzner from Mühlheim am Main, Germany

Oh my... What a strange place to live... Still I like your composition and even the color fits well with these unusual buildings...

They make for a great shot though Stephen.Nice angles and colours and the telephone lines in the sky really round it off.

Strange series of buildings… But nice ones

very nice! reminds me of that old 'little boxes' song - which is probably about the right time period...

30 Sep 2008 9:29am

@djedfre: Malvina Reynolds was attending San Francisco State College in 1962 when she was riding by the homes in neighboring Daly City and became inspired to write those lyrics.

Betty from New Jersey, United States

I have to admit, I like them, too! Love the flamingo pink, it really suits them! I love the nostalgic feel to them! Great shot!

That looks a nice neat place to live, and these Bungalows ? have a slight Art Deco look about them. I like the design which is similar to some holiday villas in Spain.

Indeed it looks fifties, funny too! Great capture.

Unusual buildings and unusual colors. But I think they combine. I agree with you... they look much 50's style. Great shot Stephen and thanks

Looks like stuccoed mobile homes. I imagine the interior is very interesting given the French Doors as wide as the house and the odd-shaped roof. I think you have the makings of a book in this series.

30 Sep 2008 1:27pm

@dogilicious: Either that or they'll 'throw the book at me'.

shahab from Qazvin, Iran

Every little town has to have its little pink house - apparently this one has several. Great documentary series you have going here.

Wow. Did not see this one coming! Dogilicious summed it up with the mobile home look. They are very unique. South Beach? Yes, but in all actuality, all of the Florida panhandle. Nice angle.

1 Oct 2008 1:32am

@Walter: Yep, I agree - the Florida panhandle - the Red-neck Riviera, yes. The Pacific Northwest - ah, I don't think so. This is one of the many reasons I was drawn to this place named Loleta. A little circle on the back roads of life...
