Great photo! There is a species of Trillium native to my area, but it's on the Endangered Species list, and I've never found one in the wild.

10 Jul 2008 11:55am

@Eric Fry: Thanks for the post, Erik. I'm surprised trillium exists so far south as Texas. I most commonly see them in the redwoods region of extreme northern California - above Eureka. Generally a very cool, shaded environment that can get really warm in the short summer season - yet receives plenty of summer fog.

Captured in wonderful light! Well done!

such wonderful light and clarity here Stephen! a beautiful capture w/ elegant detail!

10 Jul 2008 10:20pm

@dj.tigersprout: Thanks, DJ - this image actually has special meaning to me. There is a place within this park where I love to meditate - and this was taken near there - after one such retreat. Each time I see this photo - it takes me back to that place - and that connection. Peace.

Andy from United States

Thanks for visiting my photoblog. This is a really nice shot. I like the intense yellow color in the center of the flower and the shiny green leaves. I saw a differect type of Trillium up in the woods of NH once a few years ago that I got a few pictures of it looked a bit different than this.

12 Jul 2008 12:19am

@Andy: Thanks for the visit, Andy - given the differences in the soils - the Trillium in New Hampshire would almost have to be a different variety. A beautiful flower that seems to seek solitude.

Aubélia from Kortrijk, Belgium
