Goodman's Gone

Posted by Stephen Phillips (San Francisco, United States) on 17 May 2009 in Documentary & Street and Portfolio.

San Francisco's largest lumber, building, and hardware supply house was Goodman's Lumber on Bayshore Boulevard - before closing eight years ago. News reports at the time stated that family disputes led to the demise of the operation.

Goodman's would advertise heavily on radio and television with the tag line, "Goodman's Got It !" - I'd suggest now that, "Goodman's Had It."

The vast complex was to be raised in order to make room for a Home Depot. But in the still heavily pro-union environs of San Francisco - the politics of that project were firmly blocked. Hence - Goodman's sits here - still and weathered - much in need of its own former medicine.
