Crockett, California - re-visited.

The bright red and white electric sign seen through the tree branches (at right) is the " C&H 'Pure Cane Sugar' " plant - down along the waterfront. The Big Dipper is courtesy of the cosmos, some very lucky timing, and a good tripod.

Canon 5D w/Canon - 16-35mm f/2.8 at 16mm and wide-open for 30.0 seconds - ISO 50

this is a sensational image!! but it is really bizarre because the last time I was in Crockett it was a tiny little village WAY off the road!!

@jim: Hi there, Jim. Crockett has always been just off the freeway - ever since they first built the Carquinez Bridge in the Thirties. But they just replaced that first span with a nifty suspension bridge and built this new enormous interchange in Crockett. It seems seriously out of scale to the village - which I believe you would find hasn't changed much at all. And the old C&H refinery churns on and on. When were you last there?

hmmm... the last time i was in Crockett was the mid 1980's... i went looking for Juanita's restaurant and found that she had closed it... i had heard a lot about her and wanted to get there and hopefully meet her. she was rather elderly then, but was a legendary restauranteur and hostess who lived a "larger than life"
lifestyle.. and supposedly learned to cook at a high class bordello. anyway, i wound up at the Nantucket Fish Company instead. I had a nice meal but it was nowhere near the outrageous, over the top, bohemian exuberance that i had hoped to find.

@jim: I took Jesse to the Willowwood in Graton on Friday before we began shooting for the first time in well over two years.

I first met Jaunita Musson in 1970 when her 'Galley' was in Glen Ellen. One of 11 restaurants she ran between Gate 5 in Sausalito in the 1950's and ending with her Port Costa place in the 1970's.
