Pathway to the Beach - Santa Monica

@Observing: Tip o' the hat to you, Mike. I became aware in putting these few shots together - that I have no images of the world famous pier. I must be getting old. Oh, well - excuse for another road trip!

@yz: It can run a huge range - they just got a very cold ice storm this morning with snow in the surrounding mountains. This is rare. It is usually mild - with temps in the 18°-24° C (65°-75° F) range. I was down there one Christmas when the temperature was 34° C (93° F)! Southern California is fairly arid - averaging about 34 cm (14 in.) of rain per year - most of that in the winter months.

@Les: There is marked similarity and feel to them both. That whole stretch from here south through Venice, Huntington, Redondo, Manhattan, Newport - feel connected.

@MontereyJohn: What is really sad is the community of young people that are there but basically homeless. Major crash-pads and hideouts - but no fixed address. Their numbers would shock you. (think Santa Cruz youths times ten)

@Lorraine: We communicated yesterday for certain - a couple of times regarding our Facebook Group - but I would certainly remember the vision of you on that tube scooting across the Pacific Coast Highway! Now that's making a splash!!!
